RESEARCH & PLANNING - Harry Potter poster analysis

The design of most film posters is extremely similar where advertising is concerned, and the posters for the popular Harry Potter films are no exception. The main Characters are displayed in the foreground and the less important ones shown behind, Harry is holding his wand up towards the camera, reminding the audience of the genre of the film. The whole title of the film does not need to be shown as it is so well known but the part of the title which is specific to this film is shown clearly in the sky above the characters.
A tag line is used along the bottom of the screen just above the film information to make the poster memorable and also to draw attention to the release date shown just below it.
The overall toning of the poster is dark and mysterious, reflecting the dark nature of the narrative.
