One of the main differences I have found between the two teaser trailers in the number of them! Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (the first Harry Potter film) has one teaser trailer and one theatrical trailer, however for the latest Harry Potter film (The half blood prince) I have found 5 different teaser trailers, there are also different theatrical ones for the film. This shows how popular the series has become.
At the end of the Philosopher's Stone trailer is states that the film will be released 'soon' however for the Half Blood Prince trailer it states 'November', it is a big enough film to say exactly when it will be released but i think it does not to keep the audience in suspense, this would also make then watch the other trailers for the film.
The half blood prince trailer has uses captions whereas the philosophers stone trailer does not, also the recognisable theme tune only appears at the end of the half blood prince trailer whereas it is present throughout the philosophers stone one.
At the end of the half blood prince trailer the official Harry Potter website is shown, this shows how the Internet has evolved and how much it is now used compared to 10 years ago, it also shows the films popularity.
The half blood prince trailer shows a lot more action and gives more away about the story line, it is clear to the audience that Harry will be looking back into one of Dumbledore's memories, specifically the one where he first meant the wizard who is now Voldemort. It shows fighting scenes, potions and one of the main characters (Ron) appears to be dead in one part of the trailer. The philosophers stone trailer was much more child friendly and less adventuress, it has little dialogue and all sound from the film was cut out so the soundtrack could be heard. This was necessary however because now the soundtrack is extremely recognisable, also the audience who watched the first Harry Potter film will have grown up with it, this allows more action to be shown.
Both trailers are around the same length of time and I think are both well made teaser trailers, they both serve the purpose of attracting an audience to go and see and film and they have done so successfully.
