RESEARCH AND PLANNING - The Godfather Film Poster Analysis

This is the poster for The Godfather. This is a very simple poster, with the contrasting white and black colours to create a dramatic effect. The title of the film is in very large text with the USP of the actors name underneath, as he is well-known. At the top and the bottom of the poster is the production companies long and name,'Paramount Pictures' to gain recognition. They are a large company, producing many successful films, so this can also add to the posters USP. The image on the poster is of the main character, and with the contrasting white on black, it make the image look like a silhouette. With the hand strings connecting to the title of the film, it looks as though this main character is 'pulling the strings' and the dominant figure, in control, in this gangster film. It gives little information away about the film's narrative, which can create mystery for the audience. As this is a simple poster, it still has the effect of drawing the audiences attention as it stands out, from other colourful posters.
