RESEARCH AND PLANNING - Valentines Day Poster analysis

These posters are both very effective in conveying the correct message about the film "Valentines Day". Although they are quite similar they are also recognisably different, and put across their information in a slightly varied way.

Just like the poster shown below, the one above reveals the majority of the characters who will be appearing in the poster as its main selling point. Most of the actors and actresses are very well known and this is a key factor in the distribution of this film. Not only are the images of each character cleverly incorporated in the poster, but the editors have managed to also add in the names of each of them, hidden amongst the pictures. Therefore although the poster holds more information than most, with an almost balanced ratio of images to text, it doesn't appear so, since the writing is incorporated into the decoration. The whole of the poster is based on the theme of love and romance, further enforcing the genre of a romance. The actors and actresses names are shown in blue and pink to emphasise the boy/girl theme. The place where the release date should be displayed is shown the words "coming soon" surrounded in a love heart, reflecting the one shown above on the right hand side of the page, made up of a crowd of people. The credits are shown alongside this in small white writing so as to stand out against the black background.

This second poster is clearly release much closer to the release of the film, as it holds a more precise date of showing. The director who produced the film is also being used as a main selling point as pretty woman was a very successful film, they are therefore also using the actress, Julia Roberts, as another main selling point, this is also clear in the trailer for the film. This poster again incorporates the image of a heart into its layout, the credits and release date are shown at the bottom, as are the names of the actors and actresses' appearing.
