Target audience...
The way in which the trailer has been generally constructed is an indicator of our target audience. For example the clip where the knife is taken out of the draw suggests that the film is not for a younger audience, and the music aligned with this makes it all the more frightening. The lighting and transitions are also designed to be indicators of genre and so also indicators of target audience.

Editing...
The short shots which are used to add tension increase the pace of the trailer and make it harder to follow, adding to the confusion and mystery, leaving the audience hanging on and wanting to know more.
The fades to black and white in between the shots represent the flash backs and make the whole thing run much more smoothly.
Sound...
The voice over which is played over one of the shots is used to build tension and adds to the suggestions of narrative. The sound-effects of the knocking and the phone ringing are enhanced to add to the creepiness and eerie feeling of the trailer. The music increases along with the pace in the more dramatic clips, e.g. the knife, making the atmosphere more dramatic.
Genre indicators...
The clips themselves indicate genre, just as they suggest a target audience, as does the body language of the characters and also their facial expressions. The typical female victim and male villain dressed in dark clothes also suggest that the film is a thriller.
I think that the best parts of our trailer are the way we matched the music up with the clip of the knife, as it reaches its climax as the knife is taken from the draw and cuts of dramatically as the next shot cuts in. The flash transitions which we put in by manipulating the fade to white option are also very effective.
