RESEARCH & PLANNING - Avatar Main Poster Analysis

As you can see there has been two main film posters released. These main posters are designed to give a little more information about the film to the audience, and they can be altered or changed throughout the marketing campaign. In both posters there are large picture of the two main characters. On the left poster, they have just shown half of the characters faces, which shows mystery and that these two characters are somehow connected within this narrative. There are pictures of this avatar world, which the tag line invites you to enter into. The picture looks breathtaking, as it shows the dragon type creates flying over the top of this amazing landscape, high in the sky. Underneath the large font of the title Avatar, is the date of the release, so the audience is aware of when it is accessible to watch in the cinema. The title is blue and shiny which makes it stand out.
On both posters at the top of the page, for a USP, there is 'from the director of Titanic.' Titanic was a huge success in the box office and was the number one film until the recent release of Avatar. This would draw in a large fan base from Titanic fans and the director 'James Cameron'. The title of the film is in the same font, colour and size in both posters.
In the poster on the right, there is a large picture of the the two main characters, again hiding half of their faces again, to keep this mystery. There is an amazing picture of the Na'vi riding the dragon thing, past the sunset of this new world-Pandora. There is a hint that the genre if science-fiction, as behind the superimposed picture of the two characters is a picture of the planet, showing that this world is in outer space. At the bottom of the poster is more written information than the one of the left, with more credits of the actors, producers, crew, production studio etc. In contrast with the dark background, written in white is 'experience it in IMAX 3D.' This is the first major film to be created with new technology, to create this unique 3D experience. This would be a huge pull-factor to encourage a large audience.
