RESEARCH AND PLANNING - Dear Frankie

These are posters for the film Dear Frankie. This first poster is the DVD poster, it have reviews on it from critics and the tag line states: The Acclaimed Romance About Getting A Second Chance. The main picture shows that it is set by the sea side and that it is a family film as it shows a man and a boy running across the waves. There is a photo snap shot over the top of this main picture of a women and the same man in the picture below dancing, this shows the romantic side of the film. It is clear to the audience from this that the narrative will include a relationship between the man and the boy and the boys mother. The tag line also insinuates that the man may be the boys father and that he has been given 'a second chance'. There is a postage stamp by the film title this tells the audience that it is set in Scotland and that 'Dear Frankie' could be at the start of a letter. The two main characters are mentioned at the top of the poster, this is a unique selling point. The colours of the poster (light blues, sunset) show that the film is light hearted and will most likely have a happy ending.

This poster has the same main image on it, but it is enlarged and the background has changed. There is another review at the top which is the largest writing apart from the title, also some words are in red to shows their importance: 'enchanting' and 'beautifully told'. Dear Frankie is written in a font that looks like it could be handwritten, this shows again with the postage stamps that the narrative involves letter writing. The photo graph which was shown of the DVD poster is a lot smaller in this one and at the top right corner. The main actors are mentioned below the main image. Emily Mortimer and Gerard Butler are the same size and they are both in red, between their names is a smaller bit of writing in black, this states: 'Introducing Jack McEhone' (the little boy who plays Frankie). Also at the bottom there is a release date for the film. I think both these posters are effective as they show parts of the narrative without giving to much of the plot away, it is clear what the genre is and they have the unique selling point of having Gerard Butler - although is name is giving the same size font and colour and Mortimer, he appears in both of the pictures. These things will (Butler, genre and narrative indicators) will attract an audience to go and see the film.

These are the three main characters of the film. This is the trailer for Dear Frankie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQhQXKHPCmM
