EVALUATION - Our trailer and Stereotypes

Stereotypes are very commonly used within film as they enable the audience to relate to the characters in different ways and learn about these characters personalities very quickly.

The typical stereotypes which we have incorporated into our trailer are: that the generic victim of any film is usually as girl. Our main victim is a girl in our trailer however she is not the typical stupid blonde as she has short brown hair, but she is portrayed as weak when she gives up and slides down on to the floor crying in the clip in our trailer. It is usually the girl who need saving, with the male hero.

There are usually male villains. Our antagonist is a tall, dark man, who wears dark clothes. The male villains usually wear black as it represents darkness and evil.

For any genre there are the typical stereotypical setting regularly used. For the thriller genre, there is the familiar normal family house, to set the equilibrium for the start of the film, which soon turns bad. This is why we chose our setting of my house which is normal and the audience can relate to the characters living there. There is also a shot of our character Megan in her bedroom, which is a typical girly bedroom.

In our trailer, there is the cliched representation of the antagonist choosing his weapon from the knife draw which is very big and sharp, whereas our defenseless victim gets a small penknife as her self defense weapon.
