RESEARCH AND PLANNING - Case 39

This is the poster for the new film Case 39. This poster is extremely simple, the main selling points are the fact that Renee Zellweger stars in the film, hers is the only name mentioned at the top and she is the only one shown on the poster. The picture on the poster in very interesting as it looks like Zellweger is opening a door, her hand in covering most of her face and only one eye is shown, this adds enigma. The light from behind Zellweger shows that she is a 'good' character and suggests to the audience that she is going into a dark and therefore 'evil' place. This poster says that the film is coming soon but does not give a date. The tag line on this poster is: SOME CASES SHOULD NEVER BE OPENED. This insinuates to the audience that the narrative could be about a police case or a 'cold' forgotten case, or a social worker's case, child protection etc but they already know that whoever case it is will cause danger for the main characters. This is a genre indicator and suggests the film is either a thriller or a horror movie.

We might use this poster as an idea for our poster, I found this after seeing a trailer for Case 39 on TV, when I saw the poster i suggested to the group that we could do something similar but instead show a lot more of our actresses face and facial expression as a genre indicator. We also thought that instead of complete darkness we could show a shadow on the right side of the door, this creates enigma, I think this poster would be very effective. We are still discussing various different ideas at the moment but this poster has been very helpful in our planning.
